Groundbreaking Ceremony in Mongolia

On 10 June 2025, in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction of an industrial wastewater treatment plant for APU JSC. The project is being delivered by Smart Waste Technologies and represents one of the largest private environmental initiatives in the country.

APU JSC (www.apu.mn) is Mongolia’s largest manufacturing company, offering a wide range of food and beverage products – from fruit juices and dairy products to alcoholic beverages, including the world-renowned Chinggis vodka. The construction of the treatment plant is part of the company’s “Proud Mongolia” strategy, through which it consistently advances sustainable development and responsible production.

The ceremony took place directly at the construction site and brought together numerous guests – members of APU JSC’s management, members of the Mongolian Parliament, representatives of the government and local authorities, as well as companies involved in the project. A delegation from Smart Waste Technologies, Poland, was also in attendance. The event was widely covered by both national and local Mongolian media, providing an opportunity to present the project’s objectives and its significance for the city and the region.

Under the SWT contract, the scope of works includes the design, technology supply, construction, and commissioning of an industrial wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of approximately 3,000 m³ per day. The facility will be based on a three-stage treatment process utilising advanced technological solutions such as reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration. The estimated project value is around USD 10 million. Technological commissioning is scheduled for December 2027, to be followed by a six-month trial operation period.

The signing of this contract and the commencement of construction mark an important milestone not only for our company but also for the entire Mongolian industrial sector. It is also proof that Smart Waste Technologies’ previous projects in Mongolia, particularly in the municipal sector, have been positively received by the market and investors. The trust we have earned has opened the door to further ambitious challenges.

The new treatment plant will significantly reduce the environmental impact of production activities. One of the main objectives of the project is to protect the quality of the local waters of the Tuul River. Thanks to the technologies implemented, it will be possible not only to effectively treat wastewater but also to reduce the load on local infrastructure and the natural environment.

The project is part of a broader strategy for developing environmental infrastructure in Mongolia, both at the municipal and national levels. For APU JSC, it is an element of the company’s conscious and responsible growth. For us – it is further confirmation that Polish environmental engineering and the technologies we offer are highly competitive in international markets.
