DAF Systems for Industrial and Municipal Wastewater – Activated/Mixed Sludge

Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) is a process for separating suspended solids, fats, oils, and partially colloidal substances from water or wastewater, using microbubbles of air to lift particles to the liquid surface. The process is enhanced through the addition of coagulants and polymers to improve flocculation efficiency.

DAF systems are applied in both industrial and municipal wastewater treatment, including the processing of activated sludge or mixed sludge.

1. Applications in Municipal Wastewater

  • As an alternative to primary clarifiers and grease separators for the preliminary removal of fats and suspended solids.
  • As a post-biological treatment step, serving as an alternative to secondary clarifiers prior to tertiary treatment.
  • For thickening activated sludge, e.g. to support recirculation.
  • For thickening mixtures of primary and secondary sludge prior to dewatering.

2. Applications in Industrial Wastewater

  • Food industry: dairies, breweries and distilleries, slaughterhouses, fish processing – removal of fats, proteins, and suspended solids.
  • Pulp and paper industry: fibre recovery, reduction of suspended solids.
  • Petrochemical industry: separation of oils and emulsions.
  • Chemical industry: removal of mineral and organic sludge.

We ensure that equipment maintenance and servicing requirements are kept to a minimum, and that our solutions are characterised by high durability and reliable operation. This not only significantly reduces operating costs, but also increases equipment performance and efficiency.

As part of our equipment or complete process line selection, we offer a detailed assessment of the current and forecasted conditions at the facility, along with the preparation of a tailored process design.
